Affected Communities - Quharity GlenQuharity Glen runs East to West between the entrance to Glen Isla and Glen Prosen and is close to Loch of Lintrathen. Quharity Glen, is an unspoilt area of outstanding beauty - one which provides a natural habitat to a large range of wildlife including deer, ospreys, eagles, owls, herons, red kite and kestrels to name but a few. The Glen is mainly agricultural but vital to the strong tourist industry enjoyed by the Glens - walkers, cyclists, artists, bird watchers and those interested in wildlife or simply the peace and tranquillity of the area. The glen is host to several self employed individuals who run businesses from the Glen. There are a number of holiday cottages which are used throughout the year which bring in income to the area both by employment of locals, contractors and through tourists who tend to spend extra saved holiday money locally. Quharity Glen will be seriously affected by the visual effect the wind farm will have. The turbines will be visible for the majority of the length of the glen. The narrow road running the full length of the Glen runs along the north side and hugs the steep hillside as it undulates its way from East to West towards Auldallan. Turbines will be clearly visible for a great proportion of this journey. Close to Auldallan there are times when the sunlight will be broken by the turbine blades and distraction shadows will streak across the road. This will continue after Auldallan up the very steep hill and along the road until near Knowhead of Auldallan. Along this single track road the turbines will be directly visible and can be a mesmerising draw to the unwary traveller. Knowhead of Auldallan and the associated farm cottages will have a full length view of turbines and then Balintore Castle will have an uninterrupted view of all turbines at full height. |
