Affected Communities - Kirkton of KingoldrumThe Airtricity handout locates the Mile Hill windfarm near Kirkton of Kingoldrum, Angus and the village hall has been used as the location for one of the public exhibitions. "There will be significant traffic impact during construction but very little operational impact on this community." "Visibility and noise effects on any houses in the village will be very limited." Transport of the Wind Farm Disruption to local residents will involve the passage of several thousand vehicles, including Abnormal Loads, Cranes, Heavy Construction Plant and Staff vehicles on very small narrow roads in Kirriemuir and on the route towards Kirkton of Kingoldrum an unspoilt rural area.
ABNORMAL LOAD - EXAMPLE OF BLADE IN TRANSIT Abnormal Loads are scheduled to be up to 40 m long, 4 m wide each weighing up to 40 tons. View: Turbine Tower Delivery Through Alyth Turbine Blade Delivery Through Alyth Narrow roads will be temporarily widened, traffic management schemes will be implemented, these will involve road closures and parking restrictions. Abnormal Loads have been scheduled to travel through after midnight - good for traffic management but possibly seriously disruptive to residents on quiet summer nights. Motorists around Alyth, and most people who have travelled around Perth recently are likely to have experienced the disruption caused by Abnormal Loads and high volume of heavy lorries. One only has to look at the unrepaired road surface, damage resulting from heavy construction traffic, this is causing damage to all road users vehicles. Frequent and disruptive damage to underground pipelines and cables has been reported since the start of construction work at Drumderg.
TIGHT BEND IN KIRRIEMUIR The road from Kirriemuir to Kingoldrum includes tight bends, is undulating and goes directly past Loch of Kinnordy a respected RSPB Reserve which is a breeding ground for a wide range of protected wildlife which is likely to be disturbed by the continuous heavy traffic.
RSPB NATURE RESERVE - LOCH OF KINNORDY BESIDE TRANSPORT ROUTE Kirriemuir and Kingoldrum have particularly narrow roads with tight corners. There is likely to be a need to removal street furniture, trees and branches will be damaged, if not removed, and planned intrusion on private property has not been ruled out.
